LINDOS - ACCOMMODATION GUIDE - RHODES

House of Wonders has over the last decade built up a unique reputation for representing the most beautiful traditional houses in Lindos Rhodes Greece and we now have by far the largest collection of these wonderful houses thanks to our special relationship with many of the owners.

The wonderful location, the acropolis and the beautiful 17th & 18th Century Stone houses are what makes Lindos so special. Once owned by famous ships captains, many of these houses remain and were restored in the 60's and seventies by artists, musicians and writers from around the world who fell in love with the unique beauty of the architecture. Many of these houses are used as Summer houses by the rich and famous, a few others are available for rent.

Lindos houses have many typical features, such as the the carved sandstone arch that leads from the street to their private courtyard. Inside the houses and in the courtyard, black and white pebble stones (krokalia) laid out in delicate patterns decorate the floors. The main sala or living room has a hgh wooden framed ceiling, usually superbly decorated, supported at the centre by a high gothic shaped arch.

The furnishings are typically Turkish in style as are carpets and plates, but perhaps the most unique feature of all the houses are the raised platform beds often in the living room used both for sleeping and lounging.

Almost all the houses that we have in Lindos are of historic interest and many of them are featured in "Greek Style" published by Thames and Hudson, others were not published only because the owners wished them to remain anonymous.

Whilst they vary in their level of luxury, they are all full of antiques and artefacts carefully collected by the owners who have restored the houses.
