VILLA BEATRICE - DETAILS
First House: Main salla: Very large room, beautifully furnished. One of the finest examples of traditional architecture in the village, with a massive stone arch supporting the roof and a magnificent painted ceiling. Traditional Lindian bed platforms can be used as seating areas or can be fitted with beds to sleep up to four people.
Bedroom: Originally the ‘winter salla’, used by the family when the weather was too cold to heat the huge main salla. Double bed on traditional Lindian bed platform, stone fireplace.
Kitchen: Set into the side of the hill, with an intriguing stone stairway leading up to the garden above. Gas cooker, fridge, dining table.
Bathroom: Also set into the hillside. Basin, bath, shower, WC.
Captain’s bedroom: This wonderful room is accessed from the courtyard up a flight of stone steps. The room occupies the whole of the top of the tower and has windows on three sides, which command the views of the whole village, the bay and the sea beyond. The fine wrought iron bed is fitted with a beautiful mosquito net. An extremely romantic place.
Garden: Passing on from the Captain’s bedroom, across a wooden bridge, there are broad, sunny terraces, before the path leads into the beautiful shady garden, with terraces stepping up the slope of the acropolis, under the cover of olive and citrus trees, along with a wealth of mature planting. A real oasis.
The garden is shared with ‘the other side’ of the house, although the two halves are otherwise completely independent, with each side having its own separate entrance and private roof terraces. Second House: The second house is a good example of traditional Lindian architecture, with heavy stone walls, shady courtyards and fine, high-ceilinged rooms. Furnished with beautiful antiques throughout.
The house is accessed from the street through an arched doorway. The outer door opens into a multi-levelled courtyard, with a fine koklaki floor and planted with mature trees and shrubs, being dominated by a large fig tree. The rooms of the house are scattered around three sides of the couryard and a narrow stone stairway leads up to extensive, sunny terraces and the large garden, from which there are fine views. All of the rooms of the house are accessed directly from the courtyard (except for bathroom 1).
