Villa Beatrice Lindos

Sleeps: 10
Bedrooms: 3
Bathrooms: 3

Villa Beatrice is probably the finest of all the wonderful old houses in Lindos. Located at the Eastern extreme of the village, on the lower slopes of the acropolis, above the beach, Beatrice is also one of the best positioned villas, with beautiful views over the tops of olive groves and the bay of Lindos, out across to the famous tomb at the end of the peninsular and the mountains of Turkey beyond.

This house is an extremely fine example of traditional Lindian architecture, with heavy stone walls, shady courtyards and a particularly fine main salla. Thought to date back to the late sixteenth century, the house is completely original, with its courtyards and roof terraces linked by an arrangement of tunnels, stairways and bridges. It is furnished with beautiful antiques throughout.

The house also has one of the few large private gardens in the village (and probably the best), with olive and citrus trees and other mature shrubs covering five large terraces up the slope of the acropolis.

The house is accessed from the street up a beautiful rough stone pathway, overhung by bougainvillaea and cacti, the main tower, looming above. An arched double doorway opens into a stone-vaulted tunnel, reminiscent of a mediaeval castle, at the far end of which the central courtyard can be seen, over shadowed by high walls on every side and dominated by a large frangipani tree.

The koklaki flooring in this courtyard is of exceptional quality, with signs of the zodiac portrayed in three colours.
The walls that surround the courtyard, especially that of the main salla, are covered with some of the finest stone-relief depictions of some of the traditional symbols of Lindian history.

All of the rooms of the house are accessed directly from the courtyard or the upper terrace.
